QLD: Man charged over 28 year old murders

BRISBANE, Dec 3 AAP - A man has been charged over the murders of two young schoolgirls in
north Queensland almost 30-years ago.

The girls, seven year-old Judith and five year-old Susan Mackay, disappeared while on their
way to school in Townsville in August 1970.

Two days later their stabbed and stranged bodies were found in a dry creek bed at Antill
Creek, 30km west of Townsville.

They had also been sexually assaulted.

Police today questioned an 86 year-old man for several hours before arresting him.

He was expected to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court tomorrow.
